| Role:
Database developer Compared to young,
dynamic and inexperienced Senka, Bartol was quite a different
character. He had a much experience and Dodoni computing was the sixth
firm he worked for. During his career he has been on different job
positions, ranging from plain developer to database administrator,
database developer and even project manager. Dodoni hired him as a
database developer and he was responsible for database design and
implementation in nearly all company products.
From Zakro and Erich's point of view, Bartol
was a
difficult personality and had attitude problems. According to them, he was
always pessimistic, cynical and had bad sense of humour. They also
didn't like him because he always pointed out to problems and raised
questions about issues other people ignored or were afraid to ask. In
political environment such as Dodoni, that was a big crime. Problems
simply didn't exist, everything was great, we were the champions! How
dared you spoil that dream?
In time Bojan realized that Bartol was a real
expert in his field and that he knew very much about programming. His
only problem was that he couldn't keep his mouth shut when he saw
incompetence and stupidity around him. It was also obvious that he
somehow lost the motivation along the way. His motto was: "There is no
point in fighting lost battles. You cannot change stupid managers and
colleagues, you can only lose your nerves and health. Do the job
correctly so they can't blame you, get paid and then seek enjoyment
and pleasure outside of the workplace."
First time Bartol realized that he and Bojan
could become friends was when Bojan took his and Senka's side on
famous workshop. Like them, Bojan was also
a proponent of planning, coding standards and quality in contrast to
heroic code-like-hell programming philosophy that dominated in Dodoni
computing.
Later, when they started to work together on the
same project, he was even more amazed by Bojan because unlike other
colleagues who approached Bartol every time they needed something,
Bojan wrote complete specification of all his database requirements
for the current project. Bartol used that document as a template that
he handed to all developers in hope they would start to use it.
Unfortunately, some of them ignored his intention and continued to
disrupt him with questions and tasks every time they found
appropriate, even they knew that such behaviour pissed Bartol a lot.
The prime ignorant and constant Bartol enemy was Dodoni's head
developer himself, Krunoslav Bazdic Stinky.
